Pointing an agent at blocks

Updated October 4, 2026

An agent works from what you give it. In Yard that is the canvas: what you select goes with your message, what is pinned always goes, and with nothing selected only what is pinned goes.

Chips are the selection

Open the chat beside the canvas and select blocks: each one shows as a chip above the message box. Remove a chip with its ×, or select something else. Try it here, on sample data:

Context: Design system + 1 pinned

Runs on sample data · Click blocks to select them: they become the chips the agent gets with your message.

Pin what always matters

Some blocks belong in every conversation: the product brief, the design system, the coding conventions. Pin them from the block's "…" menu. A pinned block gets a striped border and a pin on its corner, and pinned blocks go along with every message and every new project, selected or not.

Point at the design system

Keep the design system on the canvas as a group: the component list, a screenshot of the tokens, a link to the live catalogue. Pin the group, or select it when you ask for UI work, and say so in the message:

Build the bulk-select bar with the components in the design system group.
No new colours: use the tokens.

Point at a repository or a file

  • Select a repository block to give the agent the whole repository.
  • Pin lines in the repository explorer as highlights with a note: the agent gets the lines and your note.
  • Extract a file onto the canvas as a block and select just that file when the question is about it.
  • In a project's spec, type @ to mention a block, a file or a repository by name.

Group what belongs together

A group is one piece of context. Gather the note, the mockups and the research for one feature into a group, and selecting the group selects all of it. See groups and contexts.
