Link blocks

Updated October 3, 2026

A link block keeps a web page on the canvas: a design file, a ticket, an article, documentation. It shows as a card with the page's title, or as the live page itself.

  • Choose Add → Link in the canvas toolbar. Enter the Address (Yard adds https:// when you leave it out) and, if you like, a Title to show on the block, then Add link.
  • Paste a web address onto the canvas.
  • Drag a link from another browser tab onto the canvas.

Previews

When a link is added, Yard reads the page and fills in its title, description, site name and image. The page is fetched from the workspace's runner, not from your browser. If you gave the link a title yourself, it stays.

To read the page again, choose Refresh preview from the block's … menu. Some pages have nothing to show; the card then keeps the address.

Opening the page

On a card, Open ↗ opens the page in a new browser tab. Double-clicking the card does the same.

Show page and Show card

Choose Show page from the block's … menu to show the page itself, live, inside the block. The block grows to a useful size and you can resize it like any other. A slim bar above the page shows the site, its address and Open ↗. Show card turns it back into a card.

Which one a block shows is saved with the block, so everyone in the workspace sees the same.

While a page is shown, the canvas still comes first: you can drag, select and pan over it as usual. To scroll or click inside the page, select the block on its own in Select mode. Select something else and the page goes back to being part of the canvas.

Sites that refuse frames

Many sites do not allow being shown inside other pages. Yard checks this when it reads the preview. For such a site the block says "This site does not allow being shown inside other pages." with an Open button instead of the page.

A page is also not shown when:

  • it is a plain http:// page and Yard is served over https://;
  • the address is not a web address;
  • it is a page of Yard itself.

Some sites refuse only certain browsers, or only after a redirect. Yard cannot detect that ahead of time, so your browser may show its own "refused to connect" message in the block. Use Open ↗ for those.

Pages in a block cannot navigate Yard itself and are sent no referrer.

Expand

Choose Expand, or double-click a block that shows its page, to see the page larger, in a panel over the canvas. The address is in a bar above it, with Reload to load it again and Open ↗ to open it in a tab. On a card, Expand shows the title, description and address, with Open link ↗.

Like any block, a link can be pinned, linked to a project or selected as the starting point of a spec. Ask AI in its action bar asks the workspace's agent about it. See projects and specs and chat.
